In a city full of thieves, there are none better than the wily Reynard a skilled cat burglar, con artist, and master of disguise who preys on the wealthy and powerful. But even a man of Reynard's talents can make a mistake, especially when there's a beautiful woman involved . . .

Now Reynard must embark upon a perilous expedition to steal a fabled gem, accompanied by a motley crew of mercenaries, pirates, and hired killers, each of whom could prove to be deadlier than the voyage itself- and none more so than the mysterious Isengrim, a cold-hearted warrior whose swordsmanship is second to none.

A gritty adventure that playfully blends suspense with humor, Reynard the Fox is the first in a forthcoming series of books by debut author David R. Witanowski.

Reynard the Fox Reynard Cycle Book 1 edition by David R Witanowski Literature Fiction eBooks

I really liked Reynard the fox. When I heard that a new version came out I was ecited but there were some things I really disliked. First off, all the characters are now humans over there animal originals. Reynard in not a fox, Tybalts not a cat, Noble is`nt a lion and the same thing went to every character. Plus, the book feels a bit too preachy to me. The religious use in this world (that`s fictional) hit too close to home for me. It kinda bothers you if you dont like books like this. But still, story was intresting, characters were intresting and the book is fairly priced.

Reynard the Fox Reynard Cycle Book 1 edition by David R Witanowski Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Reynard the Fox is a great adventure. The story is fun to read, the characters compelling and easy to root for. The pace of the novel is perfect. There is a very good blend between story, action, and bits of comedy that keep the reading fresh and the pages turning quickly. The action and the descriptive scenes evoke your imagination without being overly long, drawn out, or wordy.

My only minor complaint is outside of the two main characters, I found the supporting cast of the book to be somewhat forgetful. Even the main villain, sort of fades into the background. This is partially forgivable since Reynard himself shines rather brightly, but I found myself at times having to remember exactly who everyone was, and why they were doing what they were doing.

Despite this rather small drawback I really enjoyed reading it and highly look forward to the next book in the series. The story also ends well. It hints at a possible wild and adventurous future, but still cleanly ends. It feels like a complete novel, and not just a chapter or footnote in a larger story
I loved this book! The author takes familiar tropes and twists them just slightly enough create real surprises. The world building is superb and original. I'm looking forward to learning more about how the setting works as the series progresses. I've been a lifelong reader of fantasy and this book hit the mark for me. Two thumbs up!
So lately I have been blowing through YA novels that lean towards Fantasy and Dystopian. They are short, quick reads and not too complex. I purchased this book thinking that it would be much the same. How refreshing to find that not only is this an adult book, but it is much darker and more complex than the rather childish stuff I have been picking up in the last few years. I still blew through it- its not that long -but I really needed to commit to this novel and pay attention to the action. Of which there is plenty. It is more of an adventure story than fantasy and the author focuses mostly on one very intriguing character. He also has a rather long sentence style of writing that I really love and rarely see. My ONLY complaint would be that there are not women in the story who do more. But maybe that will happen in books to come.
I had the pleasure of purchasing my copy from Mr Witanowski himself! I was meaning to read it for some time now. It's such a lovely story. I'm a suckered for good lore rich sagas. I'm anxious to learn more about the world of Reynard. The narrative is colorful and flows with ease. I've read popular fantasy novels with amazing plots but choking narrative that makes reading a chore. I have one chapter of Fox left and I'm sad! I cannot wait to receive the second installment.
In the interest of full disclosure, I want to say up front that I am an acquaintance of the author. A few times a year Dave throws theme parties, so when I got an invitation to a book signing I thought it was an odd choice for a party theme...then I realized that Dave had, in fact, written a book. Having been entertained by his stories in the past, I decided to pick up a copy to both see what it was all about and to support a friend. In all honesty I probably wouldn't have known about this book otherwise, and that would have been a tragedy.

THIS BOOK NEEDS A WIDER AUDIENCE!! It has great characters, a compelling story, plot twists, thrilling sequences, and a satisfying ending. There were several times where I thought to myself "just one more paragraph before bed" and then MANY pages later finally put it down. Dave's story-telling style compares favorably with Pratchett and Fforde, though a bit more serious. I LOVED this book and I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel!

In short, if you both enjoy the fantasy genre and a ripping yarn, BUY THIS BOOK!
I'll give this book 4+ stars. This definitely is not the type of book I'd normally read, but a friend recommended it as a suitable gift for a teenage or young adult male. I reluctantly started the story and soon got sucked in to the excitement. It would make an absolutely terrific story with Johnny Depp in the lead and Disney or one of the studios to do the various monsters described in the story.

I wasn't real happy with the ending, but I'd guess it'll give the author a chance for the sly hero to come to a damsel's rescue. The story takes place in a fictious land which is a MUST, considering some of the dangers the hero must overcome. Plus, I never expected the surprise ending! Good work for a first book and for keeping this senior citizen interested 'til the ending.
As a stay-at-home mom with her hands full, I had been reluctant to commit to reading anything longer than short stories for quite awhile. I was glad to break out of that routine with this fantastic tale. I actually found myself making extra time in my day, several times sometimes, just to read, because I had to know what was going to happen next to Reynard and company. By the end of the book, I had grown very attached to Reynard and several of the other characters. I agree with another reviewer who suggested that this would make a great basis for a movie, or a series of movies. In addition to being an engaging story about human nature, it has action, romance (sometimes serious, sometimes comedic), and suspense. I am certainly looking forward to starting the next book!
