The world turns cold as steel when it begins to die, and the divine will answer for the plight of man... Life, as the inhabitants of Zepzier know it, ends as things of myth become a harsh and terrifying reality. Everything that Phalax, a battle-hardened defender of the kingdom of Cavia, has cared for begins to slip through his grasp as nightmares begin to plague his world. When he loses everything, he is left with nothing but a need for revenge, and the road to vengeance will be paved by the blood of both friend and foe. Phalax once upheld justice. Now, right and wrong have no meaning to him, and morality has no bearing on his actions. He worships no gods, not even those who imbue him with incredible power. He will murder the enemy of his homeland and leave no threat standing. Nothing will stop him--no mortal, no demon, no god.

If the title of "Thoughts of Steel (The Ruination Gods) Book 1" sounds a little hard to roll off the tongue, you probably aren't alone. Once you delve into the book itself, you'll find that complexity in each and every paragraph from cover to cover.
The prose itself is very, very complex and highly wordy, and you'll find yourself bumping into names like Phalax and Malkor on a frequent basis. But if you can push past the slightly cliche medieval nomenclatures and overly wordy descriptions, what you find lurking underneath the surface of this book is a highly original tale, one that has been carefully written with care and effort. Keith Edward English is a first time author, and the book bears many of the marks of that; yet at the same time this is a book that (if you are a fan of the fantasy genre) you will most certainly want to take a look at. Be prepared for epic clashes, muscle-bound foes, and more than a little blood spilled along the way. Here's hoping that Mr. English continues to write and improve his talents, because he has a natural writer's mind.

Thoughts of Steel The Ruination Gods Series Volume 1 Keith Edward English 9780692625071 Books Reviews

This new book is an exciting Fantasy novel that grabbed me from the starting page. I read it in one sitting. He handles the magic, demons, wizards, and battle scenes demanded by the genre with a deft hand. His battle scenes are vividly portrayed and will hold any readers attention. His description of the family and home that the hero is fighting to protect is shown with a gentleness that offsets the violence and adds depth to the hero's quest. I can't wait to read the next book which I believe must come from such a strong start. I rate this novel as five star must read novel.
Great freshman effort from this new author. He took some risks and put together some amazing stories. I wasn't sure what to expect as this is not the type of book I would normally read; however, it kept me entertained and I enjoyed the experience immensely.
I was looking for something new to read and after perusing a few book descriptions, I decided I would try Keith Edward English's novel "Thoughts of Steel (The Ruination God Series)" based on the interesting premise alone. I was not disappointed. At first I thought the story was going to be something like Game of Thrones but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that was not the case. It is a very fast paced read that kept me turning the pages late into the night. The description of the characters made me feel like I was standing in their company, witnessing first hand all the events that took place. There is a lot of action and English certainly displays a very vivid imagination. The storyline flows smoothly and he makes you really feel for the main character when tragedy strikes. He came to the climax in a way I didn't see coming and when I reached the last page, I was thrilled to realise he will be having a sequel. It is already pre ordered on my . Well done, Keith!
I will admit that I had trouble beginning this book because of the manner in which the characters speak to one another. However, knowing that this was a simple manner of dialect, I continued to read. I'm glad I did, because, about a third of the way in, I became hooked. The author creates a world where you genuinely care about the fate of the characters and are enticed to keep turning the page. Though not a light read, this is definitely a book that I would recommend to anyone interested in the exploration of new worlds and adventures. Can't wait for Book 2.
Cavia is on the planet Zepzier where the enemy is not human beings but demons trying to kill them all. The main character Phalax is a warrior who loses his family in a struggle with the demons who are ruled by Zeraskyr who has two horns, red skin and seems in many ways like a devil. His master Belak is in the background. But there are benevolent gods as well in this world, and they give magic powers to specially chosen humans. Phalax can fight the demons with his metal suit and swords which sprout out from a medallion when he so wishes. An old magician comes to his help when all seems lost.
The action is fast and consists mainly of fights and battles described in gory detail, with blood splattered body parts and intestines flying about. At times it can be hard to follow the plot. Keith Edward English has chosen to use a partly old-fashioned language to describe his new world. "the gods they put their faith in cared not for them", "black energy spewed forth", "Humor was a common ground and thus a lubricant.." This is mixed with very modern language in the dialogue. A book for lovers of martial arts.
Just an outstanding book. The character names are so original and the imagery captures the reader chapter to chapter. Kind of a Thor meets Dungeons and Dragons story to me. Really enjoyed this book.
I have not even finished this book and I already love it! the cover art is amazing and gives you a glimpse into the story before you even open to the first page. It is very well written and the writer does a great job at setting the scene so you can picture it as if it were a movie. Fight scenes are impeccable, very detailed and captivating. The story line is fantastic, I love reading through the pages and just being engulfed in this world that he has created. Wonderful and fantastic book by this new author, I will be eagerly waiting for his next piece.
